Forgiving others- Sheikh Zahir Mahmood

What an inspiring talk masha’Allah…(it’s not the full lecture but just an extract)

Just my thoughts after listening to it .

As humans we are weak and not perfect we always and will always err but we should try our best to rectify that wrong. We may say something to someone in jest or we may mean it,or we disagree upon something which leads to the other being hurt. We may do something knowingly or unknowingly which may annoy someone, cause them to be troubled or inconvenience them in someway or the other.

It’s human nature and we can’t say we never or will never hurt someone. Everyone is different with different personalities and temperaments. They could be our parents, spouses, siblings, friends our a random stranger on the street.

But what should we do? Should we leave the person and feel great inside that we have cause them some grief?Do we express arrogance that we are right and they were wrong?Do we stand up for our rights and during that time we cause more hurt to the person or persons?. Is that the character of Momin? Is that the way a Muslim should be with others?.

مَن تَوَاضَعَ لِلّهِ رَفَعَهُ اَللّهُ وَمَنْ تَكَبَّرَ وَضَعَهُ اَللّهُ

” Whoever humbles himself for the sake of Allah,Allah raises him;and whoever is arrogant.Allah degrades him” (Bayhaqi,Shu’ab l-imam)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “And no one humbles himself before Allaah but Allaah will raise him (in status).”

Humbleness is to know the value of oneself, to avoid pride, or disregarding the truth and underestimating people. As the Prophet sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam said, according to Muslim and others, “Al-Kibr is rejecting the truth and looking down upon people”

[Muslim, Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud].

So we should be humble towards others and forgive them.Yes I said to FORGIVE!! forgiving someone who does you wrong is not an easy thing. We have to swallow our pride,be humble and forgive.Do not dwell over the past, forgive, forget and move on with your life. This world is temporary,we are here only for a short while. Why should we spoil our time in this Dunya hurting people and stressing our self out about what others said or did to hurt us?.

Prophet Muhammad Sal’Allahualayhi wasalam stated that Allah forgives all sins if we repent but not those we have committed against others i.e. hurt their feelings unless the person we have hurt forgives first. He can also forgive the “Huququllah”(rights towards Allah swt) if He so wishes for example  (salah, fasting, zakaat etc) .Allah is Ghafoor and Raheem!! but………………………..

The “Huqooqul-Ibaad” (the rights of servants) if we hurt someone intentionally,abuse,backbite/slandered,taunted etc etc and we don’t seek forgiveness in this dunya when we are alive and well. On Yaum ul Qiyaamah Allah swt will not forgive us,He will tell us to go to that person we have wronged in this dunya and seek his pardon.Tell me readers? will anyone on that the Day care about anyone?everyone will be worried about their own salvation on that day and will be looking for any good deeds to add to their book of records. The person we have wronged if he doesn’t forgive us then Allah alone knows what our outcome will be,he can be recompensed on that day and we will be doomed ( may Allah save us aameen)

If due to some valid Shari’ reason, you cannot ask the person directly to forgive you or cannot repay the right due to him, because of, for example him having passed away, etc. then you should always and regularly make dua for his forgiveness and that Allah Ta’ala have mercy on him and grant him a much better and greater recompense. It is not surprising or beyond Him, that Allah Ta’ala will satisfy him on the Day of Qiyamat and have it forgiven.

If you have the ability to seek forgiveness and make Istigfar for that person, then do so immediately. Do not delay or be lax in this.

We are so sinful, we disobey Allah swt daily and yet if we turn to Him with Ikhlaas and repent. He will forgive us as He is the Most Merciful the Most Kind.

When the Prophet Muhammad Sal’Allahualayhi wasalam asked his Companions ‘do you wish that Allah should forgive you’ they said, of course O Prophet of Allah. He responded, ‘then forgive each other’.

If Our Creator Allah Ta’ala is the Most Forgiving, the most merciful it becomes incumbent on the slave to adopt this quality and forgive His fellow brother or sister.

If we expect Allah to forgive us than we must learn to forgive.
May Allah cleanse our hearts from all spiritual illnesess and make it easy for us to love each other for His sake and to Forgive for His sake . Aameen wa thumma aameen.

To anyone reading this who knows me 🙂 If I have ever wronged you in anyway or said or done anything to offend you please forgive me for Allah’s sake .

أحبك في سبيل الله

I love you for the sake of Allah!!
